Retrospective - feedback

It has been 7 years since we started our blog, and much before that, the off-line presence through ordinary website, traditional brick and mortar business, and via words of mouth. 

Over the 15 years of history, we have changed our business models multiple times, tried aggressive expansion, worked with partners and vendors for different strategies to sell design or sell products, cooperate with our valuable customers to develop and fine tune our products and product lines based on feedback of our customers. 

We would like to say:

And, we would love to continue to hear from you on how we can improve ourselves to better serve you, and help you with your projects! So, please use the form on the LEFT PANEL of this blog, and send in your feedback, criticisms, ideas, proposals, topic for discussions, anything at all! 

We may have hiccups along the way due to a lot of reasons - we would like to take this opportunity to apologize on them. If you see any issues at all, please work with us and we would always try to satisfy your requirements and fix the issues for you. 

That aside, apologies - we do not want to buy pipes or buy construction materials. We also, do not have any dead or distant relatives that have a bunch of monies waiting to be inherited. We prefer hard earned monies instead. So, spammers, stay away please. If you think we are gullible, think again.

Partners

We're always open to partners to help us expand our business and product coverage. 

If you are specialize in certain technology, or handcraft, or any work that is related to HIFI or audio industry, please contact us and tell us more how we can cooperate and benefit one another.

You can be - equipment manufacturer, gadgets maker, or even transformer manufacturer, we can work something out to benefit ourselves, as well as our customers. 

Examples:

1. You are amplifier manufacturer - we can cooperate by supplying you transformers. 

2. You are HIFI gadget designer - we can cooperate by sharing technology and product ideas. 

3. You are CNC house, or capable of metal stamping, bending and such. 

4. You are a supplier of parts (electronics, electrical, irons, pre-fabricated chassis, transformer cases, transformer frames and etc). 

5. You are transformer manufacturer - we can cooperate by covering one another product gaps. There are some product segments that J&K do not cover, we can pass those business to you, or act as bridge; and vice versa. There are some geographic regions that is too far to ship J&K products to (too expensive, or not covered), and vice versa, we can leverage each other's network. 

We had outsourced some of our low end transformers to our partners previously as the pricing that our customers looked for were just too low for us to manufacture here. If we like your audio gadgets, we may even help you market it under your brand, or under our brand. 

6. You have idea on transformer design that you would like to design (by us, or by yourself), manufacturer, and sell (by yourself or by us), we can work out a deal.

Ideas are limitless! Complicated or simple.

COVID-19 Update

Hope all are well, alive and kicking! 

Movement Control Order has extended but we've slowly begun our operations and catching up with the orders in the past few months - we'd like to take this opportunity to apologize for the hiccups in production. 

Kindly send in your new orders to avoid long delays as materials shortage won't be something that can be resolved in a short term as most materials manufacturers have stopped operations, or in a 50% or less capacity, same with us.

J&K custom services

What does J&K have in store? Some may ask. Our blog touches too many things.

Well, let us tell you now in a very brief way. The best answer, is still to email us what you need, and we shall see if we can satisfy your needs, or solve your problems. 

J&K main services 

1. Transformers (custom made) of all sorts - power transformers, chokes, isolation transformers, input transformers, output transformers, interstage transformers, speaker crossover / attenuator, solid state output transformers, headphone transformers, and etc. 

Materials we have now: OFC, OCC Cu, and OCC Ag (silver); single and triple insulated magnet wires; various types of insulation materials for different purposes, and etc. 

2. Transformer repair / rewinding / rebuilding - we can repair almost all types of transformers, such as power transformers, input transformers, output transformers, interstage transformers, special transformers and etc. All except SMPS high frequency switching transformers. We had repaired or rebuilt tonnes of vintage and modern transformers from famous brands, such as AN-JP and AN-UK, Western Electri*, McIntos*, Peerles*, Alte*, Marant*, Jadi*, Dynac*, you name it, we have almost repaired it. 

*** Thanks to J&K Services #2, we've learnt so much from reverse engineering those vintage and famous transformers for repair purposes. If you need your J&K transformers to mimic certain vintage and famous transformers, we can do so too. We'd prefer our own house sound if you build from now, but if you need to restore vintage amplifiers, we would recommend to follow their way to preserve the house sound, or brand sound. ***

3. Equipment repair services / modifications / upgrades.

4. Fully built audio gears, such as integrated amplifiers,pre-amplifiers, power amplifiers, isolation transformer, balance power isolation transformer, audio gadgets or audio modules, active crossover, DC blocker, noise filter, ground conditioner and such.

5. Special projects - email J&K and tell us what you need, or what's troubling you, and we can custom the solutions for you, or refer you to our partners to sort out your problems if we cannot do so. We've built such a wide network of friends, customers and partners along the way in this line. 

We pride J&K / ourselves to provide top rate quality products and services. Therefore, please excuse or please forgive us if it takes some time to get your project(s) finished. We tried not to increase our staff abruptly just to get more businesses (been there, done that, and suffered due to such) as good quality staff are had to find and train up. 

If you need an item done urgently, J&K would recommend you to please plan it far ahead to avoid rushed work.

Out of office

Hi guys,

We will be out of office for 1 week, on a business trip to China, starting 29th Oct'17.

Email access and response will be very slow as a lot of the websites we use are blocked in China, such as Google based applications and Facebook.

Power cord versus power transformers

How much have you spent, or are you going to spend on your power cords? How much percentage is that, compared to your power transformer? Be honest to yourself. Don't tell me the answer. 



We've seen many that spend thousands of dollars on their power cord like nothing at all. The price paid for all the power cords connected to the CD player, preamp, power amp, power strips, and etc, would have cost more than a Toyota Camry in U.S.A. 

For those that have yet to do so, please consider upgrading the power transformers of your existing equipment first, than to lavish on such high end power cords. I'm not saying that they are snake oil. They do work, very effectively, and I've witnessed many. What I'm saying is, upgrading the power transformers would have much higher ROI than just upgrading the power cords. 

Just spend a little more, once, on your power transformers, and it will bring you a long, long way down the road. Power cords can be easily upgraded, fuses can be changed with snap of fingers (I don't even want to go down the road with fuses) power transformers are not.

There are more than just wires in a power transformer. There are a few important factors to consider in a power transformer: 

* junk grade, low grade, high grade, and extreme high grade low loss core
* lousy made in you know where, street side magnet wires, industrial grade magnet wire, and very high grade OFC/PCOCC magnet wires for audio use
* transformer design - night market seller grade, beginner grade, factory grade, boutique grade 
* winding method - no rules friend noodle type, better but still not satisfactory winding method, industrial grade, and true audiophile grade, with stringent alignment, magnet wire tension, proper insulation, impregnated type
*  finishing - no finishing, simply spray paint, industry grade transformer use paint and oven backing 
* etc that I will not go into detail

Once you do all the above right, and pay the right price for a properly made one, you will discover how much more it will give you in return, for that very little investment you made, compared to U$1-10K power cords. General generic power transformers made are not even over U$1K, mind you. You want it to sound special, go for special quality components! Audiophile components are just limited to capacitors, resistors and/or wires only, the power transformers and chokes are part (very important one too) of them.

Good ones will cost you. I will be honest with you. It will not be cheap, but it is totally worth it. You can shy away. It's your lost, not ours. Period.

It just saddens me that I often see people skimp on their power transformers, and spend all their monies on expensive power cords. Well, good luck to you, you fools. Don't complain when you discovered (at the end) why your creations do not sound as good as it could be. 

For the wise ones, congratulations, you've chosen the right path, and welcome to J&K world, go for the best, and be rewarded with the best results.

First rant for year 2017, mind me. I'm a foolish old fool, seeking my way towards audio nirvana. :P
