Western Electric Output Transformer


Looking for Western Electric Output Transformer? Or looking for the Western Electric Sound, that you cannot forget after listening to a Western Electric audio gear? Seek no further - your holy grail is here.

This is a pair of Level 3 output transformer, made with genuine Western Electric 1038A (other sizes available, please email for more details) EI 76 transformer core. It is categorized as Level 3 due to the difficulties to get it to such specifications, where the primary and secondary are both very high impedance - 15K primary, 600 Ohm secondary! You are encouraged to seek out similar output transformers and compare the specifications to this.

On top of that, Western Electric 1038A core does not have the excellent electrical properties of modern Z11 or NanoCrystalline core and therefore is MUCH harder to get the right combination to get such wide and flat bandwidth.

Do not be fooled by the inferior frequency response compared to our Z11 or Nanocrystalline Double C core Level 3 transformers. Their frequency responses are still excellent and better than A LOT of the transformer out there. In addition, they have the warmth, tonality and smoothness that the Western Electric core is famous for. 

This pair is made for 5687 - 6SN7 use. Other specifications is upon request. Contact us to customize your own Western Electric output transformers!

Notes: For tubes with ~7K or less Rp, i.e.: 6SN7, 6J5, 5687, 6DJ7, 12AU7, E88CC, and etc. The lower the Rp, the better the frequency response and linearity.



Actual measured FFT response with 6SN7 in parallel:

Secondary in phase: 7Hz to 50kHz -3dB
Secondary out of phase:7Hz – 60kHz -3dB
